Soaring Penguin Ltd is the Registered Company of John Anderson.

Since 1997, I’ve been involved in the UK Small Press industry, notably producing comics and magazines: Meanwhile…, Comics Forum, From The Tomb, Spooky, Comics Focus and more.

This website is very much a work in progress, where I will try to document the knowledge I’ve gain designing, printing, distributing and selling comics and magazines in Britain and around the world.

I will be developing Case Studies of various titles, and what has been accomplished with them. And what hasn’t worked.

That Rich Johnston - what a guy!

I’ve known Rich Johnston for a number of years, and he’s probably the most upbeat, optimistic guy I’ve ever met. I’ve read his regular column, Lying In The Gutter like the rest of the (comics) world, enjoying it thoroughly.

When he came over to the Soaring Penguin table at the Birmingham International Comics Show, I gave him copies of Space Babe 113 and From The Tomb, because I thought he’d enjoy them, and what the heck, his column’s been so entertaining for (how many years?), I felt I owed him.

At the time, he said he’d mention them in his Monday column. I thought he was being kind. But now I know: Rich Johnston is a man of his word.

So, I’m now scrambling to update my website so that I can take advantage of his kind words. And kind words they were, too. I take a tremendous pride when I read that someone else enjoyed one of my titles. I think they’re terrific, and it’s with great satisfaction that I hear that someone else thinks so, too.
